Mark Hazelton

Mark Hazelton is what we at KBI call the 'ammo guy'. In times of darkness, he shows us the light at the end of the tunnel. Dabbling in many languages, Mark hopes to work in development and to eventually run his own non-profit organization.

He plays guitar in a metal rock band called The Brothers Highhorse. Other than melting people's faces off with his brash tunes, Mark is a vegan and is very fond of the Godzilla, King Kong and Jurassic Park movies.

"KBI is the best thing I've done so far. It's given me an opportunity to help others that I would never have had without it, and placed me alongside so many other wonderful people with the same passion. My experiences with KBI have been fulfilling in ways I never thought possible, and it continues to help me grow both as a professional and as a compassionate human being."

Nicole Candelaria

Hailing from Albuquerque, New Mexico, Nicole Candelaria’s warm smile can be seen a mile away. As the Operations Manager, she’s the mama of the team making sure we are all working efficiently and happily.

She is studying Emergency Management, Spanish and Non-profit Management for her undergraduate career, and hopes to work for non-profit organizations in South America. Down the line, Nicole has her sights set on becoming the Humanitarian Coordinator for OxFam Australia. Her favorite bands include Ray LaMontagne and Paolo Nutini, and her favorite movies are Elizabethtown and Breakfast at Tiffany’s.

"Working at KBI allows for a comfortable and accepting environment to learn about the ins and outs of running a nonprofit. At KBI everyone has the wonderful opportunity to bond together in achieving the many goals that we have set for the Kroo Bay Initiative.”

Brian Ragan

The first thing you need to know about Brian Ragan is that he is the biggest Jimmy Buffet fan you will ever meet. The second thing you need to know is that he's a New Orleans native and can make a mean bowl of gumbo.

As the Vice Chair of KBI, Brian traveled to Kroo Bay, Sierra Leone and helped to create partnerships with the programs we currently support there. At the moment, he is a graduate student at the University of Texas in Dallas studying Finance and eventually hopes to one day be in charge of capital budgeting for multinational corporations. He has traveled to 35 countries and thoroughly enjoys making wine and cooking.

"I like working for KBI because of the possibility of affecting a few individuals life's for the better."

Morgan Jamison

As the director of KBI, Morgan Jamison makes sure we are all working in unison to meet our ultimate goals. She is from east Texas, a University of North Texas graduate and holds an International Business certificate from Grenoble Ecole de Management in France.

She hopes to one day go to graduate school, work for a wildlife center and be an ambassador. In her free time, she loves eating mac and cheese, geocaching, playing guitar, reading and traveling. Her favorite music includes Fleetwood Mac and The Jonas Brothers, and her favorite films are Finding Nemo and Empire Records.

“I like working for KBI because I get to work with people who I admire, and I am constantly challenged.”

Julia Pham

As a member of the KBI team, Julia Pham is in charge of event planning and community and business outreach. Julia studied in London, England for two years and is now at the University of North Texas majoring in International Development with a minor in Chinese.

Originally from Arlington, Texas, she took a life changing trip to Northern Uganda and decided that she would like to pursue a career dedicated to helping people. She plans on going to law school and hopes to play drums in a soul band one day. She enjoys traveling, reading, cooking, listening to Stuff You Should Know podcasts and kickboxing.

“I love all of the people I have met through KBI. Everyone is pretty inspiring in their own way and learning why they do what they do makes me feel more confident in my own personal goals. I am so excited to see how all of our efforts will have paid off and to see the Kroo Bay community prosper.”
